The Mabel Wagnalls Jones Scholarship

Mabel Wagnalls Jones established as one aspect of her bequest to The Wagnalls Memorial Foundation a fund to provide scholarships for persons residing in Lithopolis and Bloom Township. The scholarships are to be used for attending institutions of learning, music and art. Scholarships were awarded beginning in 1948, and over 3,200 students have been assisted in attending colleges across the United States.

The purpose of the scholarship fund is to encourage and assist students of Bloom Township in obtaining a degree in higher education. The primary responsibility for meeting the cost of a college education lies with the student and his or her family. It is recognized that the benefits the Fund provides are not intended to meet the total financial obligation of a student attending a college or university.

Scholarship Information:
The Mabel Wagnalls Jones Scholarship is supported by her estate. For the 2012-13 academic year, one $1,000 Mabel Wagnalls Jones award will be offered.

Applicants must have a 2.25 grade-point average, be within ten years from high school graduation date, and must have become a resident of "Lithopolis or Bloom Township" before Sept. 1 of the year he/she entered first grade. Applicants can currently be enrolled in college.

Applications for the 2012 scholarships will be available in January 2012. The deadline to return applications is April 15, 2012.
