The Edward and Roberta Phillips Scholarship Fund was established in their memory by their son, Dr. Scott Phillips, and their daughter, Anita Foster, for high school students who have resided in Bloom Township throughout their entire high school years.
Dr. Edward Phillips was a World War II veteran who served the area as a dentist up until he was 89 years old. Roberta Phillips was very involved in the community, and both honored God by their Christian service.
Dr. Scott Phillips received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Zoology from Miami University and his Doctor of Medicine from the Cincinnati College of Medicine. He served two years with the Indian Health Service in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, before returning to Bloom Township. Dr. Phillips practiced medicine for 35 years at the Tri-County Family Physicians medical office.
Dr. Scott Phillips also served a term on the Board of Directors of the Wagnalls Memorial. He says, “I deeply appreciate the help the Wagnalls scholarship gave me in obtaining my education. It was a great opportunity to serve the residents of this area as a family physician.”
